Jean's Yoga Story
Jean has practiced yoga for over 20 years. Rather eclectic in everything else, her yoga practice is no exception. It has developed from exposure to all kinds of styles and teachers.
Jean began with a very vigorous practice. Shortly after the birth of her second child, a back injury made doing much of anything almost impossible.
"I really thought my life was over. One day, after months and months of bed rest," recounts Jean, "I remember experiencing a feeling of giving up and thinking, 'okay, I'm 30 years old and I'm an invalid. I couldn't paint, I couldn't play music, I couldn't even sit up in a chair for more than a few minutes. I threw one big pity party. But after a couple of days I had an awaking. I knew it was up to me to find a way back."
And she did. Not long after that Jean ran into Jane Trechsel in south side. "I knew she taught yoga and something urged me to confide in her right there on the sidewalk. I told her what I'd been through. She didn't even know me but she listened intently, took my address and mailed me an article from the book 'Back Care Basics by Mary Pullig Schatz. I practiced what was in that book and slowly, began to see progress. I owe a lot to the kindness of Jane Trechsel and the valuable information I found in that book."
Jean recently comleted the 200 hour teacher training program for certification at Heartwood Yoga, a Yoga Alliance approved program taught by Kate Tremblay and John LeMunyon. Jean received her certification the end of May, 2009.
