What defines an artist? Now there's a question with no doubt an endless number of answers. Merriam-Webster defines and artist as, 'a person skilled in one of the fine arts.' Wikipedia says, "The normal meaning in both everyday speech and academic discourse is a practitioner in the visual arts." But what I'm looking for here is what makes an artist an artist.
I think a key characteristic is the desire and ability to take what's on the inside and display it on the outside.
All of my life I have had a need to be actively producing. It has really never mattered so much what I was producing. It was more an urgent need to use time available in creating. It might be music; it might be planning a garden. It might be creating a mural, curtains, a painting or even knitting a scarf. I can say that for me, if my hands are not busy I am ill at ease; a sign of needing to get what is on the inside out.
What you will find on this site may seem like a disconnected collection of drawings and paintings and music. But these various attempts have a continuity. They are the efforts born of impulses from my soul and therefore, a common strain must run through them, my soulfulness.
Art is for the senses and so I display here mostly as an end to the work. Thank you for visiting my online gallery. Please contact me if you would like more information.
Enjoy.
